Project Purpose & Objectives
At the beginning of the semester I debated on what I wanted to accomplish through this project and I knew that I wanted to create something I was extremely proud of. I have found a passion through wedding planning and event decor, so I opted to create an online rental company where I could spread the joy of sharing my beautiful decor with others for their own special event. I focused a lot on social media, but I also was able to create a special e-commerce website where customers and clients could visit my website and browse what I have to offer.
The Project
The project overall has been a great asset to my personal business and has given me the ability to expand my creativity and knowledge to those who are planning events in their life such as weddings, baby showers, bridal showers, etc. I created the online website that gives clients the ability to purchase via my online e-commerce page.
Challenges
One of the only struggles I faced throughout creating my website was some technical difficulties, especially with implementing website plug-ins. For the website specifically, I used WooCommerce instead of Shopify, and if I could go back to the beginning and change anything, I would choose Shopify instead of WooCommerce. I experienced some issues that set me back a few weeks while I searched for solutions on how to fix the technical difficulties. I also am not “tech savvy” so my lack of knowledge about the topic was a big challenge for me.
Project Processes
Here are the steps that I took in order to get my website up and running.
- Find a wesbite host that worked for me and my website’s needs
- Design & create the logo
- Create various blog posts throughout the first few months
- Take professional photos and upload them to website
One of the most time consuming processes was just getting the website to work in general. We ran into a lot of speed bumps, so getting the process of creating the website down was essential.
My Experience
I had a very good experience with this project, and I’m glad I picked the specific project that I did. As I said in the beginning of this, I wanted to pick something I was passionate about but also something that would challenge me. I am not what you would call “tech savvy”, so my lack of experience and creating websites and e-commerce pages was also a challenge for me. I knew that through my hard work and dedication that I set aside for this project specifically, I would excel and accomplish the goals that I had set before myself.
Insights & Takeaways
The biggest take away for me, would be the knowledge I’ve learned from setting up an e-commerce website and creating my own webpage. Writing blogs every week was really fun, and gave me the extra dose of creativity that I really needed to complete the finalization of my website. I put so much work into this project and I’m happy that it turned out exactly how I wanted it to.
