The Not-So-Charlie Browns

Objective

My husband and I started an Instagram and podcast that strives to help individuals and couples through the process of navigating their early twenties. We do this through posts and episodes that address common experiences and trials people face at this age. Through this process, we worked to build connections and answer questions from our listeners with experiences from ourselves and our guests.

The Project

Over the past three months, I have made 30 Instagram posts and eleven podcast episodes. This required 5 hours or more of work a week spent planning topics, coordinating guests, creating posts, and making polls to interact with our listeners.

When creating the posts, we kept to a consistent voice and color palate to maintain a cohesive aesthetic and attract our target audience. On our instagram stories is where I engaged with our followers and asked them questions to help them participate in our podcasts.

We wanted our podcast to be available to everyone, so we made it accessible across Spotify and Apple Podcasts. Each episode has at least one of three goals: to educate, to inspire, or to entertain. These goals allow our content to maintain variety and keep our audience engaged in weekly posts.

As we fulfill our goal of keeping each episode unique, we also continue to strive to keep our content within the interests of our target audience. We have broken our episode’s topics into three main themes:

Relationships: We discussed relationship topics including friendships, significant others, in-laws, spouses, parents, and general communication.

Lifestyle: In lifestyle episodes, we discussed goal setting, hobbies, work, school, and general life balance.

Advice: As we gave advice, we discussed what we have learned through trials and had guests on the podcast to answer questions from us and viewers.

Challenges

Instagram Posts– What I posted on Instagram quickly became a struggle. I had to find the balance between posting regularly to stay relevant and ensuring my posts had a purpose.

Podcast Topics– Deciding what our episodes would be about every week was also a little nerve racking. We wanted to post topics listeners found interesting and we were also passionate enough to authentically talk about for an hour.

Project Process

My weekly process when approaching this project goes accordingly to the calendar below. I split up my responsibilities by day, then what needs to be done for the podcast and social media. Pre-planning my week takes all of the guess work out of what I need to do each day and makes sure nothing goes forgotten.

Overview

My overall goal was to create engaging content that attracted individuals seeking our content, and eventually lead them to be active listeners of our podcast. From the numbers I have tracked through Instagram and our podcasting platform, I have seen that we were reaching more of an audience before the increase in weekly content that we are now posting. Although this has been the result, I am happy to see an increase in consistency. I also feel as though our content quality has improved significantly throughout this process which opens up many opportunities for me in the marketing industry and agency I currently work with.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the content I posted over the past three months gave me a better understanding of using Social Media as an asset to a brand. Even though my page did not reach my original goal, I am proud of the work I have done. Moving forward, I will continue to use this page and post content and make regular changes as we learn and grow.
