—————————————————————————————————————-
Rexburg’s Favorite Things is an event held at the Madison County Middle School. It features vendors who are selling their handmade artifacts. The focus around this event, is to help local vendors get noticed, but most importantly, to ensure that every foster child in Rexburg, Idaho gets a stocking for Christmas. At the event there is a gray box that people can put their donations in. This event was held Saturday November 18, 2023
The projects.
For the Dancing With the Stars event this was the first item I worked on… I had to swap out the QR code with the new one for this year. I also had to enlarge the document and reconfigure all the photos and bios. Then I had to print out 50+ copies so the team and I could distribute the posters.

In the weeks following I was asked to email the sponsors and ask for their business info and logo so we could design a flyer for them to put on the tables. This was one of the flyers I designed…

The last thing I did for this event was make the program. They had a program already made so I just had to go in and update it. I didn’t realize how long it would take. The program was 22 pages long.
For the Rexburg’s Favorite Things event I started working with the committee in beginning of October. While I was working with the committee and they asked me to reach out to specific local vendors to get some information from them. That was the first thing I did. I sent dozens of emails and made many phone calls.
Then I was asked to put up posters around the school for this event.
After that I was asked to go to the local business in town and ask to hang up some of the posters.
Lastly I was asked to help put the pink envelopes together. I only stayed for 4 hours. The whole thing took 7 hours.
Challenges:
The hardest part of these projects were making the deadlines. I was able to make them but it was difficult because of all the editing involved. I had no idea it was going to be that much work. Another challenge was the last day. I was falling asleep while working to put the envelopes together. I was so tired. We had gotten there at 7 p.m. and it was 11 p.m. by the time I left. The last thing I remember being challenging was trying to find volunteers. I asked everyone in 4 of my classes if they could volunteer for 2-3 hours and only 3 people said yes. Only 2 showed up.
An overview of the experiences:
I had such great experiences from these events. I learned what it takes to plan these kinds of events. I learned a great deal about editing and reaching out to businesses. I saw a deep love, these people I worked with, had for the community. I saw how much people loved the events we threw. They had such a wonderful time with their families and friends.
Insights and Takeaways:
Because I was part of planning and executing these events. I got to see how these people worked together and how they made it all happen. There are so many little details that are essential to do before the big day. I learned that these events can cause stress and much joy. I learned that a lot of these people have extremally busy lives but still make an effort to make these events happen because of the cause.
