Over the last three months I have had the privilege of seeking out a mentor and creating a project for them. For this project I created six motivational videos that Scottie Hobbs, my mentor, can use in his business to motivate and inspire new fitness coaches joining his organization.
I will break down what I did week by week to show my progress through this process.
I realized this project was a perfect opportunity to see what a coach should do to be successful and simultaneously create training for other new coaches. Every two weeks I created, edited and published a video, for 8 weeks, with an update every two on social media.
For weeks 1-2 I spoke with my mentor and tailored a game plan for success over the next 8 weeks. In order to be more successful I watched 3 videos from Scottie’s Business activity tracker (BAT) youtube playlist. I then made my first video. To better understand what a coach would actually experience during the process I did two activities from the BAT and documented my results.
For weeks 3-4: I developed a second video explaining what a new coach experiences when they start a workout program, put myself into a new consistent workout routine myself to better relate to new coaches, and learned about new compensation plan updates Bodi is making, as well as learned about a new motivational program Bodi is doing. It was impactful to me because I saw that it’s possible to prioritize my health even amid college, and two jobs. To the reader, I want to share that it is possible for you too to prioritize you. All it takes is a commitment to do so, and your brain will surprise you at how many things it comes up with to help you out. Remember, results follow commitment.
For weeks 4-6 I created a new version of video #2, talking about what people experience as they commit to a new workout program. I then wrote out notes for video #3, talking about what a person will experience as they commit to a new 10 step program, called “Project Growth” released over the last couple weeks at Bodi. I then went through each of the 10 steps from “Project Growth” and took detailed notes for using in video #3. This was impactful because I realized how simple success can be in building a business as a Bodi coach, or any other business . We think success should be complicated and hard. But in reality we have success as we help other people succeed, and they succeed by following our example. If things are complicated and hard, they won’t follow our example, won’t take the actions, and won’t succeed. So the solution is keeping things simple so we can be consistent, and so others can follow.
For weeks 7-8 I made 4 videos. I found and downloaded a screen recorder app. I then recorded video #3, talked about the ten steps in detail for one to be successful with project growth which is a new Bodi program. After that I recorded video #4 talking about what a new coach will experience when making new connections with people on social media or otherwise. I talked about building relationships, developing genuine connections, rejection, skepticism, difficulty in reaching a broad audience, fear, and winning. I talked about each of these points in detail, how to amplify success and how to overcome each of the challenges.
I then wrote out a script and recorded video #5 talking about how a coach can be successful if they don’t have 2-4 hours a day to build their business. I talked about stripping down to the core fundamentals and making a dedicated effort for 30 min/day making connections with people, communicating, finding out needs, what people are looking for, and offering a solution. I then talked about providing help, services, and support whether people buy from you or not. Last but not least I wrote out a script and recorded video #6 talking about “What would a new coach experience when sending out invites for people to follow their footsteps?” and what would a new coach experience when following up with people they have invited? Here are some of the things they might experience: Fear, self doubt, people saying no, anxiety to follow up, etc. I talked about how each of these can be overcome.
Overall this project was a fantastic opportunity to stretch myself and grow in my future desired field of professional communication. I wish to motivate, inspire and help people. My mentor does this on a regular basis, and is paid to do it. Doing this project for him gave me valuable experience and showed me what it takes to be successful in this field.
