I am a big foodie. My mom is a chef and restaurant owner so naturally, I gravitate towards all things food. I love to cook and write so for my senior project I incorporated the two things I love, thus creating Foodies Flavor.
Foodies Flavor is a website I created with WordPress that has video content, recipes and blog posts. I have done a deep dive into the culinary world for people who have no experience in the kitchen.
Homepage:
I focused on kitchen basics, creating easy to understand material, tutorial videos and information for those in the kitchen for the first time. Splitting my deep dive into 4 categories: How to, Kitchen tips, Recipes, and Industry. Each having its own page dedicated to that topic with a hyperlink at the top to direct viewers there.
On my home page and recipe page I made a recipe book that can be downloaded just by clicking it. It has 5 recipes that are easy to follow.
Kitchen tips page:
This is the Kitchen tips page (I zoomed out to be able to include more of the page). Here I put some of the basic information or ‘tips’ that can be incorporated into the beginners time in the kitchen.
How to page:
For the How to page, I give instructions on how to do specific tasks like building blocks to make a meal, how to use specific cookware and how to dice vegetables. This page is more instructional than Kitchen tips and has the information for the why how and why to do something.
Recipes page:
Recipes is a bit different than the other pages. Each post has a how to video with an included transcript, the recipe and step by step instructions. Although the food might seem difficult for a beginner in the kitchen, everything is explained thoroughly including terms that may be unfamiliar like sauté, or mince.
Industry page:
Although my website is made for beginners, for those who are interested in knowing what they could potentially do with food. It explains what culinary school looks like, what you can do afterwards and the basic components of every dish.

What I have learned:
Over the course of completing this project, I have learned a lot about using WordPress, along with how to write thoroughly and precisely so that anyone can understand. I learned that taking relevant pictures is important because if you don’t, you will won’t have any pictures to add to your posts. I learned that design of a website can draw your audience in or take them out. Creating something that is pleasing to the eye and easy to understand is crucial.
How I applied what I learned at BYU-I:
Every aspect of this project was taught to me from BYU-I. If you asked me to make something close to this before my time here I would be lost and confused. I learned the basics of WordPress to make my website, Adobe Illustrator to make logos and backgrounds, I learned the right way to take pictures so that my IOS isn’t messed up, and I learned how to take and edit videos. The most important thing I learned from BYU-I that had the most significance on my project is how to write well. Using the inverted pyramid, being able to format, make my writing engaging and be able to write multiple pieces successfully were all fundamental pieces taught to me at BYU-I.
