Purpose
The purpose of this project was to increase communication between the CEI Testing Center and the other departments on the CEI Campus. While meeting the different departments I came up with a guide that allows all proctors to find information, contact info, and department information as needed in a quick little guide that’ll be located in our drawers in a binder. This binder will help us teach new proctors how to contact people based on the page over heading, as a part of this we have agreed to work in tandem with the other departments on all updates made to our testing software (which I cannot share with you due to FERPA) so that we can limit any stalling on these systems.
Problems
My main problems with this Testing Center Guide was the vigorous approval process on creating the final product. Initially it had more information on each page, included testing company pages showing examples of tests, and had more numbers for the Proctor. In the final product it has been greatly limited on our end for the Testing Center portion of pages. The other problem came from the amount of time I spent waiting on other departments to approve the pages I included in the Testing Center Guide on their departments. The easiest was Early College as I met with them almost every week on changes, but another department took three weeks before they sent back an approval note on the contact information.
Overview
The processes of this project allowed me to see the internal workings of the Administration at the College of Eastern Idaho. The process of improving communication on these levels were difficult since the initial systems were very closed and resistant to change; however, I do think the project allowed for these systems to become open and even communicate more freely with one another. Since the completion of the guide, we have implemented positive changes into our software that have allowed the other departments to receive scores much easier and faster making their jobs easier. The Advising department and Admissions department are much easier to reach when we call the right extension for the problem we are facing. The project, at least from what the other deans have told me, has been a positive change to the college and that they plan on keeping its changing momentum to promote healthy communication and a sense of comradery.
