Maddie Duke Suss Cookie Company

Purpose and Objectives

I created a media kit for Suss Cookie Company, a business I previously worked for in Midway, Utah. The kit includes a situational analysis, an overview of the company and client background, an internal audit, audience demographics, testimonials, and how they can improve their social media.

My goal was to build a thoughtful and cohesive media kit that reflects the heart of the Suss Cookie brand while offering helpful tools for their marketing and public relations efforts. By identifying the company’s internal strengths and understanding what their audience values, I created a resource that supports brand awareness and future growth.

I kept myself on track by sticking to a structured timeline, dedicating about five hours each week to specific areas like research, writing, design, and revisions. This gave me the time and space to be intentional with each part of the project.

This project was especially meaningful to me because I got to revisit a company I admire and have personal experience with. I was able to use that insight to highlight what they’re doing well and offer realistic suggestions for areas where they could improve. In the process, I strengthened my skills in strategic communication, branding, and media design, skills that will continue to shape my path as a Public Relations professional.

The Project

Each week I was able to use a blog website called Substack to write about what I was working on that week. I did four main blog posts that consisted of a situational analysis for Suss Cookie, who their audience is and their demographic, and internal audit along with testimonials, and how the company should utilize their social media.

Challenges Encountered in Completing the Project
One of the biggest challenges I ran into was finding certain pieces of information for my research. Some details weren’t readily available online, so I had to dig a little deeper. Luckily, I was able to reach out to some of my old coworkers from Suss Cookie Company, which was actually really fun. It gave me a chance to reconnect with them and get answers to questions I couldn’t find on my own. Another challenge was managing my timeline. There were definitely moments where it felt like I didn’t have enough time to get everything done, but sticking to a schedule helped me stay on track and finish strong.

Project Processes
I knew going into this project that I’d need to stay organized if I wanted to get everything done well. I created a weekly plan and tried to stick to it as best I could. Each week, I focused on different parts like my research, writing, design, and editing. It was fun learning more about Suss Cookie Co. than I ever did while working there. I loved reflecting on my own experience with the company while also seeing it from a new perspective.

Overview of the Experience
Overall, I really enjoyed working on this project. It was meaningful to apply what I’ve been learning in school to a real business I know and care about. The process was challenging at times, but also super rewarding.

Insights and Takeaways
This project taught me how important it is to tell a brand’s story in a clear and meaningful way. I learned how different pieces like research, design, and messaging, come together to support a brand. It also helped me build confidence in my skills and reminded me how much I enjoy my major in PR and communications.
