Project Overview
From Student to Professional is a website designed to help college students navigate the transition from student life into professional life. The project was created to provide practical resources, personal experiences, and guidance for students who may feel overwhelmed by graduation, job searching, networking, professional communication, and other challenges that come with entering the workforce.
Unlike many career resources that focus only on resumes and interviews, this project combines professional development with real experiences and lessons learned throughout college. The goal was to create a resource that feels approachable, relatable, and useful for students regardless of their major or career path.
The Problem
As I approached graduation, I realized there were many things I wished someone had explained to me when I first started college. Questions about networking, references, resumes, interviewing, budgeting, professional communication, and confidence often appeared only when students were already preparing to graduate.
Many resources existed, but they often felt overwhelming, disconnected, or written for people who already understood professional environments. I wanted to create something that felt more personal and practical.

Target Audience
The primary audience for this project is college students and recent graduates who are preparing to enter the workforce.
The website was designed for students who:
- Feel unsure about where to start.
- Have limited professional experience.
- Need practical resources and examples.
- Want guidance from someone who recently went through the same process.
Research & Development
The content was developed using a combination of:
- Professional experience in Human Resources and recruiting.
- Academic research.
- Career development resources.
- Industry best practices.
- Personal experiences and lessons learned throughout college.
Resources from organizations such as NACE, LinkedIn, Indeed, Harvard Business Review, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Mayo Clinic, and other professional sources were used to support the information shared throughout the website.
Design & Structure
The website was organized into four main sections:
- Start Before You Feel Ready
- Build Your Professional Self
- Enter the Room
- Survive the Transition
Each section combines practical advice, personal stories, resources, and actionable steps students can apply immediately.
The website also includes a centralized Tools & Resources page that provides students with templates, career resources, portfolio tools, budgeting resources, and professional development materials.
Time Investment
The project required approximately 50 hours to complete.
Time was distributed across several areas:
- 15 hours of research and content creation
- 10 hours of brainstorming and project structure development
- 18 hours of website design and development
- Remaining hours spent learning website design, researching resources, and completing supplemental learning activities to strengthen the content
Challenges
One of the biggest challenges was determining how much information to include. There are many important topics students should know before graduating, but I wanted the website to remain simple, approachable, and easy to navigate.
Another challenge was balancing personal experiences with professional resources. I wanted students to learn from real examples while still providing information supported by credible sources.
Outcomes
The final deliverable is a fully developed website that provides students with practical tools and guidance for the transition from student life into professional life.
The website includes:
- Personal stories and lessons learned
- Resume and LinkedIn guidance
- Interview preparation
- Professional communication examples
- Networking strategies
- Career development tools
Reflection
This project reinforced the importance of communication in professional development. Creating content that is clear, relatable, and useful requires careful consideration of audience needs and experiences.
The most rewarding part of the project was creating a resource I genuinely wish I had when I started college. My hope is that students who use this website feel more prepared, more confident, and less alone as they begin their own transition from student to professional.
