Why I Chose Mike’s
Before I came up to college, I got into K-pop. This interest alone would stay with me throughout my college experience, and allow me to make friends. When I decided to do communications as my major, I struggled to know what emphasis to choose. I chose Digital & Social Media, because I was always intrigued by how people could get others to listen to their stories online. These two interests blossomed together over time, and I found that I loved to see music content on my feed. This could be dance challenges, trendy dances, singing challenges, or lives with artists.
I really want to work as a social media manager for a music company or band someday. In Rexburg, there are some local bands but I wanted something more consistent to start out my journey, so I chose Mike’s Music Rexburg. Mike’s is a on Main Street, and many people come in on their lunch breaks, before job interviews, or just to hang out with friends in their free time. One of my favorite videos to film, were testimonials, because I learned so much about how Mike’s change peoples lives. People talked about how they met their best friends, found places for their bands to play, and how much they appreciated Brandon, the owner.
What I Learned
I learned that it is important to always have a back up plan and be flexible. It can be hard to plan around people’s schedules and get ideas approved, but at the end of the day, consistent and relevant content still needs to be posted. It was my first time working with a client and I was initially scared, but I worked with people who were down-to-earth and respectful. If I didn’t know something or had a question, they were more than happy to answer.
From a more analytical stand point, I learned that I needed to have a better strategy for teens on TikTok. I had done some research, had re-edited videos, and had chosen new captions for TikTok, but I realize now that more strategy and research needed to be done. I also learned to use Meta Business Suite better, because I was able to see when Mike’s audience was active, and post based on that.
