The Story
The Way of Peace follows Tiago Carvalho, a 20-year-old fighter whose life is a constant battle against the world and himself. After a brutal confrontation with car thieves where his skills as a fighter turn a “simple mistake” into a violent assault Tiago is faced with a choice: three months in jail or a rigorous anger management program.
He chooses the latter, finding himself in a “pacifist institution” led by the patient but firm Mr. Oliver. The stakes are physical: a wooden board with Tiago’s name on it. Every time he loses control, a nail is driven into the wood. Once he hits ten nails, it’s prison time. The film explores the thin line between aggression and discipline as Tiago nears his breaking point, specifically reaching that dreaded ninth nail.
Progress
Currently, the project is in the thick of the Production stage. Bringing this story to life requires more than just a camera; it involves balancing high-octane action with quiet, emotional depth. Our team is currently:
- Choreographing Intense Action: Fleshing out the stunt coordination for the alleyway fight where Tiago subdues multiple car thieves with “amazing speed”.
- Location Scouting for Contrast: Designing sets that range from the sterile, cold atmosphere of a police station to the “fragile and tender” environment of Mr. Oliver’s garden.
- Directing Emotional Nuance: Working with the actors to capture the tension between Tiago and Marlon, especially during the pivotal Tai Chi and ping pong exercises where “softness” is tested.
- Visual Storytelling: Creating the visual language for Tiago’s flashbacks at the beach, contrasting his violent past with the “calm waters” he hopes to achieve.
- Managing Production Logistics: Keeping the crew fueled and focused as we move between complex night shoots in alleys and day shoots in the pacifist institution.
