All Things Alyssa

Project Purpose

The purpose of this project was to develop a cohesive visual identity and homepage design for All Things Alyssa, a creative business offering graphic design services alongside original products such as greeting cards, digital downloads, and Canva templates. My goal was to create a brand that reflects my creative style while designing a homepage that clearly communicates my services, showcases my work, and encourages potential clients to connect with my business.

Rather than focusing on website development, I concentrated on the planning and design process to create a polished homepage concept that could serve as the foundation for a future website.

The Project

This project included the development of a visual identity and homepage mockup for All Things Alyssa. The branding focused on creating a colorful, playful, and approachable aesthetic through typography, color, illustration, and layout.

The homepage was designed to introduce visitors to the brand, highlight creative services, showcase featured work, promote products, and encourage users to join an email list or inquire about working together. Every design decision was made with the goal of creating a welcoming user experience while maintaining a consistent visual identity.

Challenges

One of the biggest challenges during this project was determining the overall direction of the brand. Because All Things Alyssa combines creative services with physical and digital products, I needed to find a way to organize the website so both sides of the business felt equally represented.

Another challenge was deciding the scope of the project. Originally, I considered designing and developing an entire website. After evaluating the timeline and project goals, I narrowed the focus to designing a polished homepage rather than building a fully coded website. This allowed me to spend more time refining the visual design, user experience, and branding instead of dividing my attention between design and development.

Project Process

The project began with research into creative studios, personal brands, and small business websites to better understand current design trends and user expectations. From there, I created mood boards and explored different typography combinations, color palettes, and illustration styles that reflected the personality of the brand.

Once the visual direction was established, I developed the brand identity, planned the structure of the homepage, and created wireframes to organize the content. The final phase involved designing a high-fidelity homepage mockup in Figma while refining layout, spacing, hierarchy, and visual consistency throughout the design.

Software used throughout the project included Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Figma.

Experience Overview

This project gave me the opportunity to approach branding from a real business perspective rather than simply creating individual design pieces. Instead of designing isolated graphics, I focused on creating a complete experience where branding, layout, typography, and user experience all worked together.

It also reinforced the importance of planning before designing. Spending time researching, organizing content, and developing a clear brand direction made the design process much more efficient and helped create a stronger final product.

Insights & Takeaways

One of the biggest lessons I learned is that effective branding goes far beyond creating a logo. Every detail, from typography and color to navigation and content hierarchy, contributes to how people experience a brand.

I also gained a greater appreciation for user experience design. A website can be visually appealing, but it also needs to communicate information clearly and guide users toward meaningful actions. By focusing on both aesthetics and usability, I was able to create a homepage concept that reflects the personality of All Things Alyssa while supporting the goals of the business.

This project has also provided a strong foundation that I can continue developing as All Things Alyssa grows. The branding system and homepage design can be expanded into a complete website and serve as the visual direction for future products, services, and marketing materials.
