Why Cobbs and Culture
My Name is Landon Cobb and I have created Cobbs and Culture. Cobbs and Culture is my personal brand for my Instagram and my YouTube channel. It seeks to tell my story of the beauties of traveling the world. Around the age of 20, I began to fall in love with travel, and the different cultures each country holds. I have had the opportunity to travel all over the world. On these adventures, I have meet incredible people, tried delicious food and have fall in love with different countries’ cultures.
The different experience I have had, while traveling the world, have helped me become a better husband in my home, a better manager at my work, a better leader in my church, a better neighbor in my community and a better student in my schooling. I wanted to take many of these learnings and put them into an available resource for others. That resources has become Cobbs and Culture. In primarily my YouTube videos, I talk about different things I have learned by my travels around the world. I also give tips to those who may be seeking an adventure of their own.
I plan one day to work for a travel company. I would love to find myself employed with Trip Advisor, Gogobit, Viator, Hooper, AirBnb or any of those similar corporations, that focus on make the individual’s travel experience out of this world. I would love to create content for their social pages, creating promotional videos, photographing experiences, or blog about the cultures around the world. I also find interest in many of the nonprofit organizations that have the mission the make a difference in the world for culture, people, and communities.
I here demonstrate my ability to first understand their demographic and the audience those companies would want to focus on; That of the eager world traveler. Demonstrating my understanding of the challenges and difficulties involved, helps set me out among my peers. I secondly demonstrate my ability to create engaging quality material. The content I create is personable, entertaining, helpful, and creative.

Putting It All Together
When Cobbs and Culture was first started, it was just an idea. There was no name, no Logo, or direction. I spent a few hours brainstorming names and finding what names were available to be used for my social networking channels. After many ideas, and verifying availability, I chose the name, “Cobbs and Culture”. I chose this because collectively, my wife and I, the Cobbs, have discovered so much that comes from simplest beauties of different cultures all around the world. I felt a need to share that idea.
Next was to create a Logo. I spent several hours sketching ideas for the logo. I wanted to convey the idea of lighthearted fun travel. A few sketches in, I knew I wanted a plane involved. I then remembered a toy airplane I had as a kid. This toy sparked a lot of the creativity I have now. As a child, I would hold that toy plane in both hands right in front of my face like I was in the plane. I would then run around the house, yard, neighborhood, and park pretending I was flying through life’s different adventure. This toy became a key aspect in my Logo design.
After several hours, I created my Logo. It was a toy airplane, flying around a toy globe, waiving a flag with my brand name. I played with different layouts, ideas, shapes, and colors, until I found what worked best for me. I sent my Logo over to a few BYU-Idaho Communications Alumni, to ask for their critique. I took their feedback, made the adjustments, and my Logo was ready to go. I made a few different layouts for my Logo so that it would be compatible with my different social media channels, and clear on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
It was now time to make my channels. I researched video, and noticed that most channels on YouTube had an intro clip that was at the start of all their videos. I spent some time brainstorming what I would do. I knew I wanted to continue the idea of lighthearted fun travel. I decided a wanted to do a stop motion video for my intro. I went online, found that childhood toy, and bought it. I then built a stand that I could hang the toy on like a puppet. I had cables coming down so I could change the angles of the airplane. I also had a spot where I clipped on my camera.
I took my contraption out to a good spot and frame by frame adjusted the toy airplane ever so slightly to appear like it was taking off. I wanted the airplane in the air to match identically to my logo. That meant I hand to have the flag appear in stop motion. I created a second stop motion video where I slowly unveiled the flag with my brand’s log “Cobbs and Culture”. I did this on a flat surface. I then spent multiple hours putting it all together. I had to use photoshop to remove the wires out of each frame and remove the background of my flag. I then had to combining the two videos through editing so that it appeared the flag was being unveiled in the sky. Once this was all done, I matched it with my Logo, added a soundtrack, and my intro video was ready to go.
I then had to create my video content. I had many random videos, images, clips, and journals from all of my travels around the world. For each video, I spent some time reviewing and collecting that information and getting it all accessible. I would then write out a game plan of the things I wanted to say in that video. I then record myself relaying my experience of that trip, the lessons learned, and many tips. I then on each video edited them so that they had the content I wanted. I threw in images, audio, and videos, to best convey my experience. I then uploaded these videos each to YouTube. I also periodically posted these memories to my Instagram.
There were several videos that I started recording but have not finished. This is because I have traveled to many places and creating and editing video is very time consuming. I did not plan to have every video created and completed at the end of my project, but just the start of a future concept. I am satisfied with the progress made in the amount of time given.
With COVID-19, it has made traveling the world to get additional content near impossible. This was not the case for “Cobbs and Culture”. I researched Japanese culture, and for a whole day brought the beautiful country of Japan to my apartment. We ate traditional Japanese food, participated in traditional Japanese activities, and brought the beauty of culture to our home. I created a video for this experience to help show ways to experience the cultures of the world from your own home.
