I created a mental health awareness social media page in 2021 based on my own life story. I took a hiatus from it due to my own mental health and decided to come back to it for this project after losing a childhood friend to suicide earlier in the year. I wanted to create a safe place where people could come learn about mental health and hear about it through my story. I spent 51 hours creating visuals, captions, a content calendar, a business card, and a downloadable mental health checklist. My dream job is to be a public speaker about mental health, so I thought this was a good place to start.

I created a content calendar that goes from October 17th-December 31st. This content calendar has topics and visuals planned for posting 3 times a week. It also has captions and hashtags planned out 2 weeks in advance. For instance, if today is November 16th, I have the captions, visuals, hashtags, and topics all done and planned out all the way through November 30th.

According to Hootsuite, “most social media experts agree that a good engagement rate is between 1%-5%.” My average engagement rate was 10.3% by followers and 23.9% by reach. So I can see that I achieved my goal of creating a safe place because people were actually engaging.
As part of my mental health awareness brand, I decided to make a “Self Care Basics” checklist. According to the psychology of checklists on Trello, “checklists make us more productive because they break down large tasks and help us feel more successful, more often.” I wanted to make this checklist to help teach people that the little things you do to take care of yourself are accomplishments.

Lastly, I decided to make business cards that lead everyone to my link tree. Where I have added the self-care basics and my Instagram, so this way it’s easier to locate my brand.
