This is the project report for the Lucky’s Dog House Commercial by Selvin Ramirez.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this project is to create a commercial for Lucky’s Dog House. This project is also an opportunity for me to showcase my filmmaking skills and have a video that I can add to my portfolio. I am able to also learn how to work with a mentor that will help me be successful.

CHALLENGES:
The biggest challenge I had was figuring out ways to record the dogs. Some dogs were scared of the camera, some dogs moved too fast for the camera, and some dogs kept running up the camera. However, I did what I could to be more understanding of these dogs so that I can capture the best shots of them. The opening scene with the bulldog in the pool took forever to film, but after an hour, the bulldog finally agreed to stand in the pool for those seconds I needed.
PROCESSES:
This project was divided up into the three phases of film production: pre-production, production, and post production. During the pre-production phase I wrote a script and created a storyboard that would serve as the foundation to the commercial. During the production phase, I spent about three and a half weeks filming the commercial. I was able to borrow all the equipment that I needed from my mentor. After production ended, I edited the clips together. In this post production phase I also found music that would go with the video, and I enlisted the help of my wife to record the voice over narration.
EXPERIENCES:
One of the biggest experiences I had was working with a mentor. In my previous projects, I would usually just work on them on my own. However, I found that working with a mentor helps me to see new perspectives and that working with a mentor helps me to produce more quality work. I was also able to work in a professional manner with the kennel owners in coordinating how I would be creating this commercial for them.
TAKEAWAYS:
What I learned from this project is that there is a solution, or multiple solutions, to every problem that arises in the filmmaking process. I also learned the importance of having a mentor that can help me improve my skills and help me prepare for a professional career. I will seek a mentor every opportunity that I have so that I can gain access to knowledge that is unique to having a mentor.
