African American Alliance Marketing Campaign – Morgan Selander

Strategic Organization – Fall 2024

Project Overview

The Idaho Falls African American Alliance promotes cultural awareness, unity, and social justice in the local community. One of its most significant events is the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Banquet, a charity and fundraising event to honor Dr. King’s legacy and support the Alliance’s initiatives. I played a role in the event’s promotion by creating flyers, email headers, posters, and social media content to drive engagement and community participation.

Bringing the Vision to Life

As the centerpiece of the promotional campaign, the minimalist design speaks volumes. Offering a sense of respect and purpose while inviting the community to come together and honor Dr. King’s legacy. It’s both functional and visually inspiring.

This letter is a sponsorship invitation I wrote for the Banquet. The letter shows the event’s significance and invites potential sponsors to engage in the celebration and support the Alliance’s mission.

Email Header

I was asked to create this magazine page two hours before they needed to send this in.

These graphics were created for the social media campaign. The goal was to engage the community and encourage participation by sharing key event details in an eye-catching and simple way.

Thank you letter to sponsors and those who attended the event.

These two flyers were what I call my “trial flyers,” created to test different designs and see what vibe the Alliance preferred. Initially, they didn’t respond well to the first designs and offered detailed feedback, which helped me refine the flyer. I learned that my content matched the vibe of East Idaho Down Syndrome Family Connect and was more playful and childlike. Taking their feedback into account, I was able to create a more polished, professional flyer that better suited the tone of the event.

Social Media Content

This Google Document contains all of the social media posts for two months before the event. I made it in this format so the Alliance could pick and choose what they wanted to post on their platforms.

Summary

Through the design process, I adapted to feedback from the Alliance, learning to shift from a more playful style to a polished, professional aesthetic that aligned with the event’s tone. The project allowed me to apply my design skills in a real-world context and contribute to a meaningful community event.
