Social Media Marketing: Misty Mountain Jewelry and Gifts

Purpose

Misty Mountain Jewelry and Gifts is a brick and mortar store with a big personality. It houses many different products and can send various messages. My client, Amber, wanted to have a presence on social media – Facebook and Instagram. She also wanted her store to have a clear brand and message.

Objectives:

Create unified social media platform

Publish content

Establish clear and accurate brand message

Project

Challenges

Two main challenges come to mind: user error and locational difficulty.

Amber, is an impressive people person and self-proclaimed old-fashioned businesswoman, meaning she sticks with reporting and advertising through word-of-mouth and paper. Both social media profiles had previously been created, but were not linked and Amber hadn’t touched them since their creation. The challenge remained, linking the Facebook and Instagram, separating them from her personal account, and Amber remembering her password to login.

Due to the physical environment, historically, it has been difficult to maintain a good following on social media, let alone, stay in business. Afton, WY, the store’s location, resembles a ghost town during the winter. Locals are less inclined to store shop and many of the population are not comfortable with an online presence. Given our goal to be active on social media, it was at first, difficult to establish a following and also get interaction through our content.

Project Processes

  1. Identify Amber’s expectations for her social media brand.
  2. Clear up current social media profiles and link them together.
  3. Begin posting content- reels, posts, stories.
  4. Check in with Amber on expectations.
  5. Research successful social media tactics and what is happening in the area.
  6. Increase following by using hashtags, and ghost following others in the area

Overview

Overall, I learned more about what it takes to be present in social media. I appreciated the things I learned while working with a client. It wasn’t as difficult getting started, but I found that collecting effective data was the hardest part, and something I still have to work on.

Insights/ Takeaways

I learned that knowing your audience is important. What is everyone else posting? What is your demographic? What do people want to know about you?

I also learned to do my research. I was way more effective in my posts when I worked with my mentor and read up on what was trending.
