Project Overview
The BYU-Idaho mission statement states “Brigham Young University-Idaho was founded and is supported and guided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Its mission is to develop disciples of Jesus Christ who are leaders in their homes, the Church, and their communities.” This project is centered around what leadership is and how to become a better leader, especially as we leave BYU-Idaho and go on to become new leaders in our places of business, church callings, and home responsibilities.
The purpose of this guide is for any BYU-Idaho student stepping into a new role as a leader in any capacity to take it and apply as they are asked to lead.
My hope is that the reader will take these tips and allow them to enhance what they have already learned about leading.
in this process I learned about the importance of a solid leader. I had the opportunity to study leadership in depth and my eyes were opened to the ways that leadership (go or bad) enters into every aspect of our lives. There is so much power a leader holds in their hands and it is important to be prepared for when we are extended leadership opportunities at work, in church callings, in our communities, and even as we lead our families.
My Process
I gathered information and sources and spent a large portion of my 50 hours researching leadership techniques and science. In this process I reviewed material I had learned in my classes and built upon it with further research. It had occurred to me that there are countless sources on these topics and it would be convenient if they were all in one place. That is why my project took the form of a handbook. I will be able to use this in my future as a leader and refer back to what I have learned that will aid me wherever I land.
Everyone will be presented with the opportunity to step into leadership, these are the steps to help you become your best as you do so.
