The Purpose
I decided to create and edit a website detailing the effects of Mass Media. My curiosity sparked me to have interest in what exactly the Mass Media does for us, and to determine if the Mass Media was truly good or bad.
The Project
The Mass Media is a daily factor in everyone’s lives, it has grown so much and has evolved and now everyone depends on the Media, either for work, school, and entertainment. Throughout the Winter Semester, I created a survey detailing questions about what Communication Major Students here at Brigham Young University – Idaho felt about the Mass Media. I conducted all the information into a detailed website showing the statistics from the Survey and what I could overall conclude.
Challenges
There were some struggles while building this website, one of the struggles was first finding communication major students to interview.
Communication Major students know and understand the Media since they work with it every day and will work with it in their future careers. Finding Communication Major students was hard but eventually I was able to interview 30 students for the survey. Originally, I was going to conduct the survey on WordPress, but I found Wix to be much more effective and efficient. While working on this website and learning the good and the bad of media, I could reflect on past experiences of overusing the media and see how much it limited me from doing simple tasks. I could also reflect how the media has also helped me a lot with communicating with others and other daily activities.
Project Processes and Insights
Over the course of three months, I was able to progress more with my project and was efficient in gathering more information about the Mass Media. As the project was moving forward, I even researched further into the Mass Media effects to help me broaden my understanding.
As the project was entering its next phase, I could gather insights about the value of the data I was collecting come to my own personal conclusions about the mass media, such as having a balanced relationship with it.
