Project purpose and objectives
The Safety Target Project is focused on creating a training site for construction companies. The construction industry has come a long way toward increasing safety for its workers, but ongoing and up-to-date training is not typically the strong suit for an industry that gets its hands dirty.
The objective of this project is to show how small to medium construction companies can easily create their own set of training modules, or work with a consultant to generate the training they need to both stay compliant and safe.
The link below shows sample pages as if the site were commercial, but also shows how a training site may be created for specific company use.
Higher-level training is commercially available at a high subscription price, but intermediate and targeted training is possible at the mid-range and is possible to be done by even the greenest of beginners.
Challenges encountered in completing the project.
Most challenges confronted while creating this site were a matter of execution. Understanding new tools is always a barrier to entry, but tools such as WIX and WordPress bring development tools within reach of novices.
Project processes
In developing this site, subject matter was selected from a small set of topics commonly covered in training for construction teams, and specific content for individual companies can be sourced from OSHA regulations and manufacturers’ tool use instructions. In the set shown here, training is a hybrid of the applicable regulations and appropriate operational instructions for the tools referenced. Research and editing were at the core of the process.
Building an online tool was a key component, intended to show how a training site might be constructed. The portion of the process required diligence and effort, but proved the basic notion that anyone can create a site tailored to their needs.
