Project Purpose & Objectives
The purpose of this project was to develop real-world skills in podcast production, content creation, and digital communication through building and growing Off The Glass, a basketball podcast I co-host.
My primary goals were to:
- Improve my technical abilities in video/audio production and editing
- Learn how to create engaging short-form content for social media
- Build confidence in sharing opinions on camera and connecting with an audience
- Create a consistent workflow from planning to publishing
- Understand how to track engagement and use it to inform content strategy
This project was built around more than just podcasting—it was about becoming a more effective communicator and content creator.
The Project
Podcast Episodes Produced
Throughout this project, I planned, recorded, and published four full podcast episodes—each one building upon the last in both content quality and technical execution:
- Episode 1: News Talk
We launched Off The Glass by breaking down early NBA season surprises and finding our footing on mic. This was the foundation—testing the gear, the format, and the flow. - Episode 2: Buy, Sell, or Hold
This episode focused on team performance narratives—should we buy the hype, sell the stock, or hold off judgment? I began experimenting with editing and pulled short-form clips for the first time. - Episode 3: Contenders vs. Pretenders (March Madness Edition)
Centered around NCAA bracket predictions, this episode brought March Madness energy. We used a new camera for upgraded visuals and edited dynamic short-form content featuring external audio and stronger pacing. - Episode 4: Predicting NBA Playoff Seeding
Most recently, we debated how the NBA playoff race will shake out. We analyzed standings, schedules, and seeding matchups. I took the lead in episode prep and handled post-production edits for social clips with bold predictions.
Each episode gave me a chance to sharpen skills, from audio cleanup and framing, to pacing, delivery, and content strategy.
Challenges Encountered
This project wasn’t without its obstacles—each one became a lesson in resilience and adaptability:
- Technical Setup: Blue Yeti mic issues, syncing audio and video, and new camera setup delays taught me the value of testing everything ahead of time.
- Editing Learning Curve: I was new to CapCut, and it took time to understand how to use layers, effects, transitions, and text overlays effectively.
- On-Camera Confidence: Speaking confidently was tough at first. Over time, I grew more comfortable, learned to trust my takes, and began speaking with more presence and clarity.
Project Processes
I developed and refined a weekly production process to keep things organized and efficient:
- Planning: Select a timely topic (e.g., playoff picture, March Madness, team narratives), outline talking points, and prepare a rough show structure.
- Recording: Set up camera, lighting, and audio; test equipment; and film each episode with a co-hosted, conversational approach.
- Editing: Cut both the full episode and short-form clips using CapCut. Add captions, external audio, and visual effects tailored for TikTok and Instagram Reels.
- Publishing: Upload the full episode to YouTube, and distribute clips across social channels using engaging captions and strategic hashtags.
- Engagement: Monitor views, likes, comments, and shares. Use feedback and performance metrics to shape next week’s strategy.
This workflow allowed me to produce consistently and stay creative under pressure.
Overview of the Experience
Working on Off The Glass has been a hands-on, fast-paced experience filled with creativity and learning. Each week brought a mix of challenges and growth, giving me the chance to not only talk basketball but also practice meaningful digital communication and media production.
From a blank screen to a growing online presence, this journey has transformed my understanding of what it takes to create high-impact content.
Insights & Takeaways
- Repetition builds confidence. Every time I hit “record,” I got more comfortable speaking clearly and confidently on camera.
- Good editing makes great content. A strong message paired with smart visuals, music, and pacing can turn a simple clip into something engaging and shareable.
- Content needs structure. Having a workflow and plan made a huge difference in consistency and quality.
- Audience feedback is essential. The content that resonated most helped me adjust direction and lean into what people actually want to see.
- Every role matters. From pre-production to post-promotion, each phase of the process taught me a different skill—and strengthened my understanding of the entire content pipeline.
