Beauty Industry Branding & Client Experience Design

Ulta Beauty Stylist Rebrand

Project Purpose & Objectives

This project’s goal was to create a unified, customer-facing brand identity for an Ulta Beauty stylist using several types of carefully created promotional materials. The goal was to enhance the client experience altogether across all touchpoints, improve brand recognition, while enhancing her professional image.

The project aimed at achieving luxury and approachability—two important qualities in the beauty industry, while aiding the stylist in better communicating her skills, experience, and personality through the creation of consistent, trendy, and aesthetically pleasing materials.

A series of different design sprints that built on the stylist’s developing visual identity were used to carry out this redesign. Some of the deliverables were:

Business Cards
Simple, modern styles that match current trends in the beauty industry and highlight the stylist’s personality.

Client Brochure
A fashionable educational brochure that uses a strong layout, hierarchy, and visual storytelling to present services, expertise, and brand messaging.

Event Posters
In order to increase engagement and registrations, promotional posters for a blowout event were created with a focus on visual impact, clarity, and brand consistency.

Appointment Cards
Appointment cards that are both practical and brand-consistent, with the goal of boosting client scheduling and strengthening professionalism.

Each piece was made to perform both independently and as a part of an unified brand system.

Project Process

The project used a careful, professional design process:

Research & Discovery

  • E xamined current trends in print design and branding in the cosmetics business.
  • Examined salon marketing guidelines and competition materials.
  • Talked with the client about the brand’s objectives, tone, and personality

Concept Development

  • Made layout experiments and hand-drawn designs.
  • Visual hierarchy, color schemes, and typography were tested.
  • Discussed ideas for alignment with the client and mentor.

Digital Design & Refinement

  • Created final designs with Photoshop and Adobe InDesign.
  • Concentrated on usefulness, readability, white space, and consistency
  • Improved designs in response to criticism and realistic print requirements

Production & Delivery

  • Print-ready files were prepared.
  • Supervised printing, examined physical proofs, and delivered finished products
  • Conducted in-person client evaluations to guarantee satisfaction

Challenges Encountered

Maintaining visual consistency across numerous styles while adjusting each design to its particular purpose was one of the biggest challenges. The design priorities for business cards, brochures, posters, and appointment cards differed, but they all had to seem like they belonged to the same brand.

Another difficulty was striking a balance between practicality and aesthetic appeal, particularly for appointment cards and brochures, to make sure that designs were both aesthetically pleasing and useful for regular salon use.

Experience Overview

Throughout this project, working closely with a real client gave me important insight into professional branding processes. The value of communication, flexibility, and attention to detail has been highlighted through client meetings, feedback sessions, and in-person reviews.

This project was particularly fulfilling to watch the ideas progress from concept to finished products being actively used in a salon setting while assisting in the promotion of an actual event.

Key Insights & Takeaways

  • Regardless of how small the item might seem, uniformity across all touchpoints is essential for strong branding.
  • In the beauty industry, print materials continue to have a significant impact on client opinion and trust.
  • Clients’ views on a service, its worth, and the professional behind it can all be influenced by intentional design choices.
  • For producing crisp, polished, print-ready designs, Adobe InDesign still serves as a necessary tool.
  • Technical design skills are essential but so are clear communication and teamwork.

My ability to develop unified brand systems while working closely with clients to achieve their vision has been improved by this project.
