When I first became a mom, I found myself looking to google A LOT. I had so many questions. Am I doing the right thing? Is this normal? Is this what the belly button is supposed to look like after their stump falls off? When you do all of your research on Google using Google Search or Gemini, it’s really easy to take in information that may or may not be true. I decided I wanted to know what is the truth and I want to look into trusted sources to find all of those answers. I have come up with the project called Mom’s Education to address just that. Those first few years of a child’s life are so important, and I know I’m not the only one who is looking to Google for answers.
For this Mom’s Education Project, I have run an education campaign of classes in conjunction with The Rexburg Nurture Network. The Rexburg Nurture Network, is a place where moms can get connected and educated, with its primary focus on moms with toddlers and babies. The Mom’s Education project, has provided the Nurture Network with 6 different class discussions, 30–60 minutes a piece. The topics for those classes have included sleep, discipline, foods, winter activities, how to prepare your child for kindergarten, and milestones. We are also reading the book “Raising Mentally Strong Kids”, by Daniel Amen and Charles Fay.
For the research aspect of the classes I searched places like hospitals, peer reviewed articles, social media accounts created by doctors, lists of well cited articles and websites. I then would lead discussions that lasted 30–60 minutes. Following the discussions, I created infographics that compile information from the sources as well insights from the discussions. The goal has been to arm women with validated information and research to feel confident in what they are doing as a parent and not have to rely on blindly searching on a web browser for the answers.
Attached below is a PDF document where I have outlined each part of the project, what I did, how long it took, and included my infographics as well as Instagram posts.
