The Giving Cupboard Awareness Initiative

Personal Project for the COMM 420 Capstone Course

About Me

I am a passionate communicator who values thoughtful, creative, and strategic messaging. I love storytelling that inspires connection and builds meaningful relationships across communities, businesses, friends, and families.

I am a senior at Brigham Young University-Idaho and will graduate this December 2025. I am majoring in Communication with an emphasis in Organizational Leadership and minor in Public Relations.

I chose to work with The Giving Cupboard for this personal project because I understand the importance of food pantries and related services. Personally, I have been a recipient of food support while growing up with a single mother, so this cause is especially meaningful to me! I was fortunate to volunteer at The Giving Cupboard this past summer, and during that time I was inspired by the effort and care that goes into helping those struggling with food insecurity. The impact The Giving Cupboard has on Jefferson County creates transformative moments in people’s lives as they are experiencing challenging times. I am happy to be a part of proposing a strategic communication method that will help The Giving Cupboard increase its awareness among people in Jefferson County.

Project Summary

For my personal project, I worked with The Giving Cupboard, a local food pantry in Rigby, Idaho. I reached out to Kori Ellis, the President of The Giving Cupboard Board and she told me they want to reach new residents in Jefferson Country who did not know about The Giving Cupboard and its services. My project is a compilation of extensive research, suggested actions to take and a detailed plan on how to carry out the suggested action to help improve the awareness of The Giving Cupboard to Jefferson County residents. Below is the booklet I created for this project. I plan to deliver this booklet to Kori Ellis so she can utilize this as a resource for their future board meetings.

Thank you!
