For this project, I created a sports brand website called “Couch Coaches”.
The whole point of this project was to build a site that shared football news and articles that other sports networks don’t talk about. In a world where sports analysts only talk about trade rumors and Tom Brady’s legacy I wanted to create a brand that discussed other topics. For my content, I wrote five articles discussing things in the football world. Each post varied in length but in the end averaged at about 1,000 words each. My goal was to post once a week, every Friday, for five weeks. Each article had a call-to-action at the end to create engagement with my audience.
I also created a logo and color scheme for this brand so that I can expand my reach through social media channels and merchandise. After the completion of this project, I have already created a plan to bring this brand to social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook. I also have plans to create a podcast for it. Lastly, I have plans and mockups of merchandise to sell on the website as well.
The website did not become live until June 21. Before then, I spent every week writing a blog and editing it. I would publish the article to the website before the website was available to the public. The reason I did this was so that viewers had something to read when they visited the website. It would not have been good for people to visit a website with nothing to read. Once all the articles were finished I was able to confidently launch the website with strong content.
As someone majoring in public relations with a focus in advertising I wanted to be able to do something with the skills I learned from my classes. I have learned skills in how to build websites, write blogs, and build a brand. This project was a great way to showcase those skills. As a football fan, this is a great place for people to come together and read interesting articles that they will enjoy. This project showcases everything I have learned at BYU-Idaho.
