How many times have you gone thrift shopping only to walk out of the store disappointed and empty handed?
If I had to put a number to it, I would guess my closet is 80% thrifted items. I’ve been thrifting since I was little, and I am unashamedly amazing at it. I have people ask me all the time where I get my outfits from, and they are always shocked when I say it’s thrifted. I always get people saying, “Every time I go thrifting, I can never find anything good”.
So, I decided to put my talents to good use and start Nova Thrift, a business where I sell my thrifted finds on social media. I do the shopping, find the best items, photograph them on models, put outfits together, and post it all on Instagram.
I also have been training my audience on tactics that will help them become a better thrift shopper, giving them advice and tips that help them choose the best finds. I have people all the time tell me that because of my page they have tried thrifting a lot more and have found some good things. They thank me for my help and influence in getting them to the thrift stores.
A lot of the hours in this project have come from creating reels and stories, organizing inventory, and trying to gain followers through interactions on other accounts. I also have spent a lot of time thrifting and also getting donations from people, sorting through those donations to find the best of the best.
I also spent a lot of hours creating a rebrand after I noticed that the colors of my logo were not matching my photo colors very well. I specified brand colors, fonts, design elements, voice, captions, and hashtags in a comprehensive style guide which is linked below.
I think the most difficult part of this project has been creating reels, video content has never been super strong for me, but I have been pushing myself a little bit more and it has been really interesting to learn a lot more about the video world, especially short video content. Learning the strategies that it takes to make a successful reel has been really beneficial.
