I have had the privilege of working with a recent cosmetology graduate as she prepares to propel her career. As we began to discuss her career goals, short and long term, it became clear that social media marketing would play a huge role in her success. This hair stylist wanted to learn the basics of social media marketing as she prepared to secure an apprenticeship that would hopefully lead to a permanent position. Along with learning the basics of creating a social media presence, she needed to create a brand.

As a photographer, with any social media marketing client, I offer branding and content shoots. When this cosmetologist graduated, I attended to take photos of the graduation, or “clap-out,” as Paul Mitchell calls it. We have done two branding and content creation shoots. One in Jackson, WY, and one in a studio.

In a digital age, visuals are important when building your brand. As a branding photographer and social media coach, I can help you create visuals that set the tone for your brand.
From brand name, logo, color scheme, written or verbal messages, to photos, I help you create your brand voice. Your design choices will attract your niche audience and get them excited about your brand.

A challenge we faced was the decision to combine her personal and professional accounts. After a discussion of the pros and cons, she decided to combine accounts and use her personal account moving forward, as it had an established following and an engaged audience. This is a decision many content creators face. I recommend combining accounts, as it can be tedious to manage more than one account. In a profession such as cosmetology, it is a great idea to personalize your brand, and what better way to do this than posting your work to your personal audience?

Once a week, the cosmetologist and I would video call to discuss content creation among various social media marketing tips. These tips included optimal time for posting, content creation, target audience, paid ads, analytics, and more. As you grow a brand via social media, you will develop an audience. It is essential to learn how to monitor your audience through your goals, niche, and analytics.
I am excited to watch this cosmetologist’s brand blossom, as well as the many future brands I will have the pleasure of building.
