A year ago, I had the opportunity to work with the marketing team at China Central Television (CCTV) as an intern during Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games. Luckily, I was a part of the team to prepare for national forums and conferences for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. That incredible experience has had a significant impact on my career plan. For the year I am here in Rexburg, I continue to work for them remotely.
It has almost been a year since the Winter Olympics was held in Beijing. The first-anniversary forum is coming up on March 25th. Therefore, for my Senior Showcase, I had this wonderful opportunity to work closely with my team members to prepare for the Beijing 2023 Winter Olympic One-Year Anniversary Forum.
Beijing 2023 Winter Olympic One-Year Anniversary Forum is a party for senior representatives from 145 international organizations and mainstream media outlets from 78 countries and regions around the world, for reviewing the innovativeness of the Olympic Games Beijing 2022 and encouraging to spread the of Olympic values in the future.
The scope of my part includes providing the hosts’ script in both Chinese and English, creating a poster that would be posted on the official website of the forum, and editing a 30-to-60-second video, played at the start of the forum, that contains parts of the 2022 Winter Olympic exciting moments.
After hours of discussion with the CCTV marketing team, the first step is to gain a basic idea for the theme. I watched several videos of the past forums the CMG group has conducted before. I also combined my experience participating in the CMG Tech Forum, the South-South Human Rights Forum, and the experiences shared by my colleagues. After all the basic preparations and meetings, I had a sense of how this forum should look like, which is essential to finish my job remotely.
Throughout the entire process, I connect closely with my colleagues. I have learned the importance of conducting good communication. All my team members have been very supportive when I come to collect information and materials.
Since it is an important forum, both the marketing team and I have faced some disagreements and challenges in the process. As the result, I recommended having extra zoom meetings with the marketing team weekly, to solve the problem as soon as possible. Zoom meetings helped us to keep each other up to date on information and ideas about this forum.
At the same time, I kept in close touch with the CCTV presentation team and the two hosts for the final forum. Since I take charge of the script writing and video presentation for the forum, I need to get approval on words and videos from many people. I love talking to them because I do learn something new every time. I learned so much about how to write formal scripts for such big events. The team members did provide me with suggestions on rewording some sections in the script using their professional knowledge.
Writing the draft of the hosts’ script is a challenge to me as I need to use the language in a formal way, especially for such a huge event with all the important guests. Furthermore, neither of us knows all the names of the important guests who will be participating in this event. So, it was hard at the beginning to set a specific tone and finish the draft with so many blank spaces in the middle. In the process of writing and rewriting it, I kept communicating with the marketing and presentation team, adding information to the script, and modifying the words.
The video of the “2022 Winter Olympic Moments”, is the part I enjoyed the most in this project. This 60-second video displays moments that occurred in the 2022 Winter Olympics, such as the magnificent stadiums China built for the Olympics, exciting record-breaking moments of athletes, sand, etc. I communicate with the marketing team for all the footage they can provide and with the presentation team for tips to edit a video. In the process, I learned some tips on how to use advanced editing tools, how to use proper music, and how to put all the clips together and make a professional and attractive video.
The video is attached below in the post, and as you watch it, you can feel the energy that Beijing has put into this Olympics.
Creating the poster for the forum is not as hard once I have the elements and official name of this forum, provided by the teams. I revise it several times after talking to the marketing team, to make sure this poster is formal, and that all the information displayed on the poster is accurate.
“Together for a High-tech Winter Olympics, Together for a Better Future.”
The senior project I have been working on this semester is to write the host’s script in both English and Chinese language for Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics One Year Anniversary Forum, along with creating a video and a poster to celebrate the forum on March 25th, 2023.

During the process of preparing for my senior project, I practiced the skills I learned in the past four years on professional writing, effective communications, and outstanding design. Weekly Zoom calls with CCTV marketing and presentation teams have trained me to become a great team member and get used to teamwork.
Furthermore, I learned how to use poster and video editing tools from professionals, which will be helpful not only for this forum but in my future career. It is such an accomplishment for me to know the script, poster, and video will be used on the forum on March 25th. My efforts, humble attitude, good communication skills, and ability to learn have been seen by both teams. I believe we will have future connections after I graduate in my career.
