Introduction to Jessie’s Daycare
When I was living in Utah, I had the chance to spend time with Jessica, the owner of family care. For my senior project, I wanted to take her Facebook page and post content to advertise the daycare on local groups and to her current followers;
Overview
I divided my senior project into 4 parts:
- Social Media Presence
- Rebrand Facebook page. I created a color palette, and content pillars, and engaged with local Facebook groups. I created 10 total posts that include a combination of carousel posts, reels, and photographs of the daycare.
- Local Digital Advertising
- Added daycare on Google Maps, Apple Maps, and Yelp to ensure parents can find her daycare in their online research.
- Paper advertising
- Created a flyer and business card to place in local bulletin boards and shops.
Social Media Presence
Rebranding
Before my senior project, there was a copyrighted image as a profile picture and a photograph as the cover photo. I took some time to rebrand the page and create a new color palette. I chose a softer color palette of orange, creams, greens, and blues to evoke a feeling of peace and daylight. I used pastel and bright variants of these colors to give light and adequate brightness to the page

Here is the Facebook banner I created:

Sample Blog
I wrote six blogs to improve community engagement. This type of content marketing is important when creating a brand because blogs can be easily shared in Facebook groups and on personal pages with people who are interested in the topic of childcare. Here is a sample of one of the blogs I wrote:
5 Tips to help your child fall asleep
Some nights getting your child to fall asleep can seem like a daunting task. Read these 5 tips to help your kids fall asleep fast!
- Establish a nighttime routine!
- It’s true that children like predictability. Research from the National Library of Medicine says that “children who follow bedtime routines are more likely to go to sleep earlier, take less time falling asleep, sleep longer, and wake up less during the night. These benefits to sleep quality are still seen years later.” Having a routine helps children know when it’s time to sleep and makes future bedtimes faster and easier.
- Cozy Sleeping Area
- Having a cozy and inviting sleeping area for your child is another way to help kids fall asleep. Soft bedding and a designated area where they feel comfortable will help them feel safe enough to fall asleep. Additional things that can help with their tranquility are nightlights, favorite stuffed animals, and lavender-scented oil for relaxation.
- Small Snack
- An early dinner is ideal to keep tummies at rest during the night. A small snack can curve any food cravings and be part of a relaxing nighttime routine. Food brings relaxation and comfort. In a routine, it can be a sign to the mind that sleep is on the horizon
- A few snack ideas could be peanut butter crackers, a piece of fruit, or half a sandwich. Avoid foods with excessive sugar. It might have the opposite effect or cause an upset tummy!
- On that note, lower water or other drinks as the evening goes on so they don’t need to wake up in the middle of the night! Keeping hydrated during the day in order to prevent this.

- Soothing Activities
- When bedtime approaches, start shifting the tone of the house from playtime to sleep time. Before the start of a bedtime routine, start shutting down electronics around the house and turning off unnecessary lights. Try having soothing music in the room and preparing for bed. Part of a soothing nighttime routine can include a bedtime story, setting up clothes or activities for the next day, tidying up the room, and saying goodnight to the rest of the family members.
- Limit screentime before bed
- Blue light from phones and screens can make falling asleep difficult for both children and adults. Besides the screen, action shows and loud music can make it difficult for little imaginations to settle down. Instead of keeping the screens on, have a simple conversation with your child. How was their day? What was their favorite part of dinner? What was their favorite game today?

Local Digital Advertising
Jessie’s Daycare has a functioning Yelp, Google Maps, and Apple Maps page to make it visible to local parents in the area who are searching for daycares. I added a “Call to Action” through the descriptions on these websites to encourage potential leads.
Paper Advertising
I created a flyer and business card in case my future research points to giving paper advertising a try. Posting on community boards, getting the business on state websites and resources, and strategically placing business flyers and cards around town could be beneficial.
Future Plans
I plan on continuing to work with Jessie’s Daycare after this senior project. I plan on creating an Instagram page to increase the reach of new followers. I plan on creating reels about childcare as well as graphics and blogs during the week.
I will research Google, Yelp, and Instagram to see which advertisements preform best in the Orem/Provo area and run a few paid ads. I think it is worth trying paid ads because thanks to my professors, I know how to strategize and run these kinds of advertisements. I will keep in touch and get opinions from professors at school and connections on Linkedin to help me put my best foot forward and help this small business grow.
