Hello! My name is Jessica Vanderwalker, I am a Communication student in my final year at BYU-Idaho. My emphasis is in Digital and Social Media with a module in Public Relations. Over the past three months, I have spent over 50 hours dedicated to utilizing the knowledge I have gained over the past four years to build up the social media pages for the benefit of The Nest, a home and rental property management company here in Rexburg, Idaho.

Project Overview

During this project, I helped Beth and Justin Vanderwalker in their efforts to use social media to increase brand awareness, build local trust, and find new tenants to fill available space in their open properties. We started from ground zero with brand new pages and nearly no community in the area, as Beth and Justin were in the process of moving their business from South Carolina to Idaho.

As I began, I recalled many crucial elements of my college career thus far to apply to this final showcase of my capabilities. This included starting with a brand guide where I clearly outlined the company’s target audience, voice, goals, color palate, fonts, etc, in order to ensure the client and I were on the same page with the direction of our pages. I also knew from my classes thus far that it was important to post consistently and for my posts to show relation to each other. To do this successfully, I created a posting schedule and outlined 3 main content pillars that we kept to over the past months. These pillars included:

  1. Educate: Show the audience the ins and outs of realty, property flipping, and property management. Inform followers of the open space available for rent in our current locations.
  2. Entertain: Show the fun and humorous side to the work Beth and Justin do daily. Include aesthetic progress report posts.
  3. Inspire: Help the audience feel empowered in their ability to complete large and small home projects.

With this foundation, we worked tirelessly to create successful and engaging social media pages!
