18 Days of Postcard Mailers

Hello! My name is Abigail Christman. I’m a senior in communications emphasizing in visual. I’m a happy wife and a mom of two! Now onto the project.

Project Overview:

What

In a nutshell, I designed 18 different postcards every day for three weeks. Every card included a holiday, style, business, and message.

Why

I chose this project because I wanted to expand my portfolio and prove to myself that I could produce a lot of quality work in a short amount of time.

When

“What do you mean by a short amount of time?” you ask. Every day, from midnight to midnight, I created a postcard from start to finish. Once midnight hit, I was done, at whatever point I had it at. I did this every day for three weeks and gave myself three break days. So in total, I completed 18 designs in 18 days.

Process

Preparation: research, sketch, setup document

Execution: draft, refinement, final

Completion: template, mockup, Facebook post

Takeaways

I feel that I met and exceeded my objective for this project to prove that I could create a large quantity of quality work in a short timeframe.

I learned so much throughout this project. To mention only a few lessons I learned:

  • I’m capable of more than I’ve been giving myself credit for

  • To roll with accidents and adapt to problems

  • That I have found a new love for illustration

What’s Next

I’ve been contemplating buying an iPad or a better Wacom than what I have. Since renting an iPad for this project, I’m sold. I want to hone the illustration and design skills I’ve gained. The next step is creating patterns and trying my hand at making little booklets for children!
