Project Overview

For this project, I developed a brand from concept to completion, drawing on my passion for fitness and wellness to create something meaningful. I focused on brand development by defining core values, attributes, logos, color schemes, typography, and visual identity. This process culminated in a brand guideline book detailing proper brand usage and a physical product representing the brand’s vision. Below, you’ll find the professional brand guidelines and examples of the products developed. Additionally, I outline the process and rationale behind each design choice.

Brand Development

Creating a brand requires a clear vision of the desired outcome. I aimed to build a bold, memorable brand with a strong identity and philanthropic purpose. My research into trending brands helped shape the direction of my brand, inspiring elements that would make it both distinctive and impactful. I envisioned an animal symbol in the logo and, after brainstorming, arrived at “Muscle Monkey”—a name that resonates with the fitness industry and is easy to remember.

Logo Design

A successful brand benefits from versatile logo options, adaptable for various contexts. I created a primary logo, a secondary logo, a submark, and an icon, each featuring the monkey head and barbell motif alongside the “Muscle Monkey” brand name. These variations ensure the brand maintains its identity across different applications. Refer to the brand book for specific logo usage guidelines.

Typography

The brand’s typography includes two fonts: Amador and Alternate Gothic Extra Condensed. Through extensive testing, I refined the font sizes for titles and body text to ensure readability and brand consistency. The brand book provides guidelines for using these typefaces and explains the design choices behind them.

Color Palette

To make the brand bold and attention-grabbing, I selected a color palette featuring red as the primary color, complemented by black, white, and dark maroon. Red commands attention, while the other colors provide balance and versatility. Red, black, and white form the primary brand colors, with maroon used selectively for contrast. More details on color usage are available in the brand book.

Imagery

The brand’s imagery centers on the monkey—a symbol of strength and dedication—along with visuals emphasizing active, muscular engagement. This approach reinforces the brand’s focus on fitness and wellness. The brand book includes a mood board with imagery that embodies the brand’s energy and inspiration, featuring individuals actively pursuing health and fitness.

The why behind the brand?

The purpose of creating Muscle Monkey goes beyond developing a gym clothing brand; it’s about sharing a journey toward becoming stronger, healthier, and more fulfilled. Muscle Monkey was born from my personal experience of wanting to lead a more active life and discovering how powerful fitness could be in healing both body and mind. When I first committed to regular exercise, I quickly realized it was more than just a physical transformation. Fitness helped me manage stress, build confidence, and become a happier, healthier version of myself. Muscle Monkey aims to inspire others on their paths to wellness, reminding them that fitness can be a joyful and empowering journey toward personal growth and resilience.
