Compassion Without Cages

When I first began my senior project, I wanted to create something meaningful—something that could make a real difference. That’s how Tails of Aries was born. While I don’t live in Greece, I was deeply moved by the country’s overwhelming stray cat population and knew I wanted to find a way to help. What started as an idea soon turned into a full-scale project focused on providing medical aid, food, and humane solutions through trap-and-release programs.

From Inspiration to Action

The idea for Tails of Aries came from my love for animals and my desire to make an impact beyond my immediate surroundings. After learning about the struggles of stray cats in Greece through research and personal stories, I knew I wanted to develop a project that could raise awareness and provide support, even from afar.

My first steps involved extensive research on nonprofit organizations, animal welfare initiatives, and sustainable solutions for stray populations. I then worked on branding Tails of Aries, including its mission statement, logo, color scheme, and messaging, etc. to give it a strong and professional identity. I had to look into my target audience of tourists and dive into who exactly those tourists are. I wanted to ensure that the project had an engaging and impactful presence that could reach people worldwide.

Creating the Logo

Designing the logo for Tails of Aries was a crucial step in establishing the project’s identity. I wanted the logo to reflect both the compassionate mission of the organization and the cultural influence of Greece. I researched Greek symbolism, incorporating elements like clean, minimalistic lines and colors inspired by the Greek flag—blue, white, and gold. I also wanted to include the symbol of Aries, the greek god who was known for having a cat companion. His symbol is the curved “V” that you see as the main face of the logo. I had to make sure that all the ends or points were uniformed, meaning not pointy or too round. I liked the subtle round but not to round points. As you can see the first draft was very disconnected and felt like three different elements. I was able to connect this by drawing a partial cat face. After multiple design iterations, I finalized a logo that represents the balance between care, strength, and tradition, making it a recognizable emblem for the project.

Building the Project

Turning an idea into a structured project required more than just passion—it took planning, organization, and creativity. I developed a website concept (Linked here), mapped out marketing strategies for store locations, and designed a merchandise line to help fund initiatives like medical aid and food distribution. Though I couldn’t be on the ground in Greece, I focused on creating a platform that could spread awareness and encourage people to get involved, whether through donations, volunteering, or advocacy.

One of the biggest challenges was learning how to effectively communicate the mission not just for tourists but also the locals. I focused on crafting a warm, supportive, and informative brand voice that inspires action.

A Project with Real-World Impact

Although Tails of Aries started as a school project, it has grown into something much bigger. This experience has given me invaluable insight into nonprofit development, fundraising, and community engagement. More importantly, it has shown me that even from a distance, I can make a difference.
