Overview
I became acquainted with Madisonhealth’s community aid and outreach efforts during my internship last summer. My role as an intern involved acquiring volunteers (particularly from the BYUI Nursing Department) for sponsored community events.
Through this experience, I learned they struggled to maintain the consistent number of volunteers needed each month to keep the RMFP (Rexburg Mobile Food Pantry) operating smoothly. I knew I could apply what I learned over the summer to connect this vital resource to a reliable pool of volunteers on campus.
I started this project with the sole focus of volunteer recruitment for the RMFP. As I learned about the high percentage of low-income, food-insecure households in Madison County, I decided to expand the project. This secondary goal is geared toward helping raise awareness for a serious issue that “America’s Family Community” hesitates to acknowledge.
Purpose
The ultimate desired outcome of this project is to provide Madisonhealth with a portfolio of materials that will give them the capacity to better promote the RMFP as a volunteer opportunity and a local source of aid without needing to sacrifice limited time and resources already dedicated to more immediate community
outreach pursuits.
Through this project, I aim to:
- Connect Madisonhealth with a constant, reliable source of volunteers that can assist the RMFP year-round
- Actively and passively promote the RMFP as a local aid resource and
service opportunity - Improve Madisonhealth’s ability to inform the community about Idaho’s ongoing struggle with food insecurity
Outcomes
This proposal and these materials will be presented to Jessica Goudy, Madisonhealth’s Communication Strategist. Ever since she was my internship mentor, we have been in regular contact discussing what would be beneficial to this effort. She will determine how, when, and if any aspect of this proposal is utilized.
