Sports Growth at BYU-Idaho

For my senior project, I worked with BYUI Sports on a research campaign to get a better idea of what students think about sports on campus. We wanted to know what sports students enjoy the most, see what they would want to hear from us, and how we can improve our social media platform. The big goal was to get honest feedback from students so we could see how we can best reach them.

To get this feedback, I designed a survey with some questions regarding students’ favorite sports, whether they participated in those sports, and how much they would like to have more of each in terms of sporting events and social media presence. This survey was then sent out to students who had registered for any sport league or event over the past year. After collecting enough responses, I analyzed the data and looked for patterns and trends. It was very interesting to see how students from different backgrounds were interested in different things.

After I’d sorted through the survey data, I created a presentation based on my research. I broke the most important points down, like which sports students liked best, what students were missing in their opinion, and how BYUI Sports can improve accessing students through different communication channels. Sharing that data with the team allowed for some productive discussions on moving forward.

Finally, I came up with a plan that included suggestions on what BYUI Sports would do to cater to students’ interests. Things like focusing more on certain sports, spotlighting others that are not well-known, and creating social media content that is more fun and interactive. It was a wonderful experience doing this project and learning how to conduct research, communicate, and plan, and I would really enjoy continuing to use these skills in my professional career.
