From Passion to Practice: A Real-World Marketing Project with Spitfire Pickleball
Project Purpose & Objectives
I set out to work with a real company where I could apply and expand my skills in marketing and content creation. Spitfire Pickleball, a growing pickleball facility in southeast Idaho, was the perfect fit. Their brand had potential, and I saw an opportunity to help them build a more strategic and engaging social media presence.
The goal was to create consistent, creative content that would increase local awareness, drive community engagement, and ultimately bring more people to the facility. While increasing revenue is always a long-term goal in marketing, my focus was on creating meaningful engagement and improving their digital presence with sustainable strategies that matched their brand and voice.
The Project
I developed and implemented a short-form content strategy focused on Instagram and Facebook. Deliverables included:

These materials were designed to elevate Spitfire’s social media presence and make it easier for their team to continue posting quality content long after the project.
Challenges Encountered
One of the main challenges was capturing content at the right time. There were days I showed up ready to film, only to find the courts mostly empty. I quickly realized I needed to follow Spitfire’s event calendar closely and plan around their most active times to capture the energy and atmosphere that truly reflects their brand.
Another challenge came in post-production. After reviewing my early edits with a mentor, I received helpful feedback about pacing—specifically that some videos needed tighter edits to keep viewers engaged. This insight pushed me to fine-tune my editing style and focus more on flow, energy, and audience retention in short-form video content.
Project Processes
The project began with a full review of Spitfire’s existing social media presence. I analyzed post frequency, visual consistency, engagement metrics, and voice. From there, I created a simple, strategic plan centered around short-form video—ideal for showcasing an energetic and visual sport like pickleball.
I visited the facility multiple times to gather footage, capturing candid moments, action shots, and atmosphere. I edited the footage into short, engaging reels and stories optimized for social platforms, and designed branded templates for consistency. Every piece of content was created with their community in mind—fun, accessible, and easy to connect with.
Experiences Gained
This was my first time working independently with a business on a marketing strategy, and it gave me valuable insight into what it takes to manage a content campaign from start to finish. I learned how to adjust my creative process to meet real-world expectations, communicate with a client, and deliver work that has practical impact—not just aesthetic value.
It also reminded me that small, intentional efforts in social media can go a long way in building brand visibility and trust in the local community.
Insights & Takeaways
Through this experience, I learned that making an impact doesn’t require perfection—it requires direction. Understanding a business’s goals is essential. It’s easy to assume every company wants more followers or higher revenue, but real value comes from digging deeper into their unique vision and priorities. Once that’s clear, I can tailor my strategy to fit their needs and use my creative strengths to drive results.
This project gave me a strong foundation to build on. I’m excited to continue growing in marketing and content creation, take on new opportunities, and help more brands tell their story in a way that connects and converts.
