Why Social Media?
During my time in the Communication program, I became a highly qualified videographer and writer. I applied my skills in roles at Soapbox Creative Agency, where I directed a season of television and an award-winning documentary, and at Scroll, where I worked as the Multimedia Marketing Director focused on growing newspaper readership.
As a Digital Messaging Intern for the Friend magazine, I now use these skills daily to support a variety of multimedia projects. Although I do (and have done) a lot of social media work, I’d never studied it in depth because that wasn’t my chosen emphasis.
The goal of my senior project was to start a brand from the ground up. I wanted to demonstrate not only my ability to create content, but also my understanding of social media and business strategy.
Project Overview
I partnered with the up and coming interior design brand, Prairie Rose & Co.. My client had done freelance interior design work before, but was looking to branch out and start her own business.
I collaborated with her to prepare to launch her digital presence, starting on Instagram. I helped her find a way to make a profit on her mood boards through affiliate link programs. My focus was on developing her brand strategy and content plan, but I also edited a series of videos, took professional headshots for her brand, and managed all of her digital content as a proof of concept to show my strategy in action.
