Cullen Westbury- Give Good Vibes

My Project

Give Good Vibes is a unique online brand that I created from scratch. GGV is meant to spread good vibes online in creative ways. The “good vibes” are spread through original artwork found on Instagram, uplifting quotes through Twitter, and online discussion through my blog and Podcast. A large part of my project was spent on developing a thorough website that matched the “vibe” I was going for.

This project took me a ton of time, but I am super stoked with what I was able to learn. I came to better understand what it takes to start a brand from scratch, and I now have a real understanding of the importance of everything from keywords in SEO to relevant and consistent hashtags.

My project stemmed from my Instagram page. I currently have over 700 followers, and have posted most often to Instagram (27 posts this semester). From there, I worked on creating a solid website that matches the overall theme of my Instagram page. This step was definitely the most time consuming because there is so much that goes into every part of a well-crafted site. I then created other types of media to supplement the media that I have already created. My website is clean and simple, with links to my Instagram, Twitter, Podcast (via Spotify), Blog, and merchandise. I worked on customizing my SEO so that it appeared more easily on google and led people to my merchandise.

My blog and podcast were the other strengths of this project. I created a blog with short and concise articles that cover uplifting quotes or common life problems and how to overcome the worries of the world. I fell in love with the concept of podcasts because I saw how well it boosted my blog posts. Each podcast that I did followed the blogs that I posted.

Overall, I am very happy with how everything went. This project got me excited about the future because if I was able to do all of this now, while I am busy balancing work and other classes, I can’t imagine what I could do with a little more time and this experience under my belt.

My booth was also simple and clean. I had two of my original designs on display, along with a TV monitor so that I could show everyone my website. GGVIBES.com is the home base for all of the other media that I created, so I wanted people to be able to scroll through and see what I have accomplished. Since we have been quarantining in our Texas home, I did what I could to create a makeshift set-up that would be somewhat similar to what it would have been..

Supplemental Material

Here is one of the episodes from my podcast. I was able to publish three episodes to Spotify, something that I have never done previous to this project. Each episode corresponded with one of the blog posts that I created. I really liked how the Podcast added to what I was able to do with my other social media accounts.

One Step at a Time

In the journey of life, each step plays an important role.

A lot of us don’t have the patience to see things through. We want our food ready as soon as we are hungry. We want to watch that show as soon as it comes on. We are so used to living in a fast-paced world, that anything less than instant doesn’t feel good enough.

While the rise of same-day shipping, 5G phone plans and instant food cookers are totally cool, it’s important to remember that our lives aren’t meant to always go at lightning speed.

There is something to learn in every single day.

Don’t rush the process, just embrace it.

So, the next question is… how?

1. Appreciation-

Start a journal. Write someone a letters. Make a list of the good things that happened at the end of each day. This will help you to look back on each day and remember the little miracles that happened. One day you’ll look back and see the little blessings that made up your life.

2. Help someone-

Call a friend. Volunteer at a soup kitchen. Talk to someone who seems lonely. Do something special for your wife randomly. These are the things that will help you to keep perspective by reminding you how good you have it. The experiences that come from helping others will help you to slow down and remember what matter most.

3. Time-

The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing. Take time to remember the point of everything. This could mean meditation, a long drive by yourself, or going out and doing something fun that you have been wanting to do. Taking break for yourself is huge, and can help you avoid disaster.

Whether you feel like you are on top of the world or you feel like you are about to sink; take a deep breath, relax, and move forward one step at a time.

Conclusion

This project sometimes felt relentless. There was definitely a lot of players that I had to manage throughout this semester; however, I am happy with how everything turned out. I feel that creating Give Good Vibes has helped me to grow a ton because it has given me real-world experience and helped me to produce content that I am proud of. I am excited to see where this goes from here, and I am grateful for all of the help and insight that I have received from faculty, friends, followers, and family throughout this process.
