Project Introduction:

Fast fashion has been around for the last 20 years, and just as fast food industry has been debunked from lawsuits, health regulations, and documentaries, we deserve to know the front and back end of the fast fashion industry. I have completed 18+ hours of research on fashion sustainability, the process in manufacturing clothing and textiles, the negative effects and outcomes of fast fashion on society (economic and environmental), and how to live a lifestyle that supports sustainable fashion.

I believe it is important to know the front and back end of the fast fashion industry and to understand how it affects the earth and the people working everywhere between production and management.

My goal for this project was to create content that is appealing and informative to help viewers understand what fast fashion is and how to gravitate toward slow fashion. I wanted to create a space where people could ask questions and have discussions on this topic. I value this awareness in my life and hope that others will also understand the power they hold as consumers of the fashion industry.

Content Creation Process and Plan:

  • Conducted 18+ hours of research collecting credible and relevant sources

  • Spent 32-35 hours on content creation and organic posting, responding to questions/comments on posts/Instagram messages, and analyzing post insights/analytics

  • Posted one to three times on weekdays between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm

  • All photos are originals and produced myself (unless properly sourced and credited)

  • Utilized Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Canva to edit and create final images

  • Optimized final images as Instagram posts and stories (correct dimensions)

  • Wrote informative captions to discuss further of the post topic, utilized effective hashtags (i.e. #slowfashion #sustainablefashion #ethicalblogger #slowfashion)

Project Results:

I learned that people are interested and wanting to know more about fast fashion and how to live a more sustainable lifestyle. I received at least one Direct Message a week from the duration of the project and was asked on sustainable brand recommendations, how to spot fast fashion brands, and what the alternatives were to support slow fashion. I received positive feedback and questions under my posts of people reiterating what they learned and how surprised they were to learn about the impacts of fast fashion. I learned that people enjoy reading facts in an engaging way as well as reading about my tips to live more sustainably.

I have enjoyed every moment of this project and plan on continuing to create fun and informative content on sustainable fashion.

Thank you for reviewing my senior project!
