Comm and Advocacy

For my senior project, I utilized my skills that I have developed as a Communications major to benefit individuals in the workforce who have been negatively impacted due to the pandemic. The project consisted of helping others with resumes, cover letters, interview preparation and their LinkedIn profiles.

To begin this project, I found “clients” by utilizing LinkedIn ProFinder. Through this system, I contacted young professionals, recent graduates, refugees, and senior level professionals to assist them in their career development. The process of finding people to help was time-consuming; however, I found four individuals in a two-week time frame (Mona, Trisha, Taylor, and Patsy).

After finding these people, I worked with them individually according to their needs and career goals.

I served as a mentor and friend to these people by teaching and guiding them through the job search process. We collaborated via zoom, phone calls, and emails in order to achieve their goals. I created tutorial videos using PowerPoint and Adobe software for resume writing, cover letter writing, and LinkedIn profile optimization. These videos are intended for clients to review and utilize in the future.

For this project, I demonstrated my skills in negotiation, persuasion, interpersonal communication, writing, video editing, and coaching. I’m happy to say that my guidance helped Taylor, Patsy and Trisha receive job offers that they accepted!
