Comm and Advocacy

“Discovering the Silver Linings” is a book I wrote to share that there is hope—silver linings—amongst the hardest of times. I do this by taking the reader through diverse stories of individuals who have discovered “silver linings” through their own heartaches. My purpose is that it will inspire the reader to look for silver linings in their own life.
Silver Linings began in my second year at BYU-Idaho as I created a blog for fun. I then pursued this blog in Comm 111 by interviewing individuals, developing their stories, and sharing those stories to my blog.
This book is a continuation of those stories, along with my own. I’ve put many hours into editing, interviewing additional individuals, writing, researching, designing a book cover, and creating a manuscript in hopes to publish.
Over the years, I’ve done a lot of volunteer and advocacy work in suicide prevention. I’ve had close family members and friends experience the very lowest of lows, and I, too, have experienced challenges. Through it all, I’ve come to believe that we all need hope.
Silver linings are just that! They are:
· A hopeful or comforting prospect in the midst of difficulty
· A comforting or hopeful aspect of an otherwise desperate or unhappy situation
I have been searching to know more about silver linings—what they are, where to find them, and what they mean to me. So far, I have discovered that they bring hope, peace, and comfort. I’ve also found that they broaden perspective and shift paradigms.
Through the reader’s journey, my purpose is to inspire them to discover their own silver linings. In doing so, I hope that they will be led to finding hope, peace, and comfort through their own heartaches.
