Flameo Hotman Podcast

A Start

The Project began with the curiosity of podcasting. Podcasting has been a newer media and started with the development of the iPod. There was a desire to have a way to listen to radio broadcasts on the iPods and through that Steve Jobs created the highly used Apple Podcast app. There were different ways to find podcasts but the popularity and the built-in use of Apple Podcasts allowed them to become widespread use.

Today there are around 5 million podcasts primarily shared between Spotify and Apple Podcasts concerning true crime, politics, and movie reviews. I began having an interest in podcasting when I was on my mission listening to Don’t Miss This, a come follow me podcast going through the scriptures. When I came home I listened to it on Apple Podcasts and eventually started listening to true crime podcasts and movie reviews. This continued my intrigue in podcasting as I find speech to be very intriguing, I just struggled to find what I would like to talk about.

Why Avatar : TLA?

Watching Avatar: The Last Airbender through my teenage years I really loved the story and the different things that you learn in this series. As the show became available on Netflix during Covid it was easy to fall back in love with watching the TV show. What was so interesting was that I was significantly older, especially for the age rating of 7yrs that the writers were targeting. I was older and I still loved it so much, and I still had so much to learn from the show. This felt like a great Podcast topic, a TV show that was ageless and had so many lessons embedded in it. I loved it as a young kid, I love it as an adult, and my mother loves it as well.

Prep Time

To begin the project I began by looking into podcasts and how to start one. I already knew I wanted to make Avatar: The Last Airbender the topic of the podcast and go episode by episode. Each episode has a unique perspective and different aspects that are being focused on, and that’s what we talk about in the podcast. What we love about each episode and how we learn from it. There are kiddy lessons, as it is a children’s show, but there are deep lessons of life such as how to cope, how to accept mistakes that we have made and how to forgive others and ourselves.

Knowing where to start for each episode helps guide the podcast session so that I can discuss all of the episode and highlight the important themes throughout. Doing Research and wathcing the episode allows time to understand the episode well so I can talk about it however I please and not get lost. It is important that I have a script ready and am prepared.

Podcasting

From here I began recording with Audition and publishing to Apple Podcasts. In each episode we go through what has happened in the episode, introducing the guest and how familiar they are with the show. The episodes are then published with a short description and for now, they are all placed in season 1. Once I move into season 2 of Avatar: The Last Airbender then I will be able to create the new season on the podcast.

I am excited for the new possibilities that are open knowing how to podcast. It is important that I use each episode as a learning opportunity and that I try to do my best to help others learn from the podcast. Avatar : The Last Airbender is very special to me as it makes me laugh, brings me to tears, and helps me reafirm what I believe about myself and others. As it shows other characters going through changes it helps me remember that there are alwasy opportunities to make differences in ourselves.
