Process
For my senior project, I interviewed 4 different couples about the differences in their cultures and how they incorperated each other’s cultures into their relationship.
From this project, I learned that cultures are defined by our actions and family traditions. Culture is evident when people communicate with each other. Love comes from much more than communication.
Each couple I interviewed was in a different part of their relationship. And I found that sacrifices and compromises are made in any marriage, but if you love someone it is worth it.
I started my project by reaching out on a local Facebook page and finding people willing to help me. It took one to three hours to interview each couple and find a focus to make their stories interesting.
Most of my 50 hours went into writing the articles. After writing the articles, I designed a magazine layout using InDesign. I added orange and green colors because they are contrasting colors like cultures sometimes contrast. The colors accentuate small details in the story and make my project more interesting. I also showcased my favorite parts using pull quotes and spaced the pages evenly.
I did not take all the pictures but credited the ones I did not take. For Marian and her family, I took them to the temple with a professional camera and shot in manual mode using the skills I learned in my photography class. I increased the shutter speed to take clear pictures while the family played together. I used Lightroom to clean up the pictures and use them in my project.
