Employer Welcome Packet

By Savanna Bergquist

Purpose & Goals

The Employer Welcome Packet was created to make it easier for companies to connect with BYU-Idaho students and take full advantage of the Career Center’s services while also learning about our University. The goal was to provide a well-organized, professional, and easy-to-use pamphlet/guide that helps employers understand how to recruit students, post jobs, and participate in career events.

What I Created

The final Employer Welcome Packet includes:

  • A clean and visually appealing pamphlet design.
  • Introductions on what BYU-I has to offer them, our recruiting/internship options, using Handshake, and the student and campus insights.
  • Details on hosting recruiting events and offering internships.
  • Contact information and support services for employers.

Everything was structured to be informative but not overwhelming to make the experience better for employers looking to engage with BYU-Idaho students.

Challenges

Here are a few things that I struggled with throughout this project:

  • Narrowing Down Content: There was a lot of useful information I wanted to include, but had to choose the most helpful and insightful information.
  • Design & Branding: Making sure the packet looked good while staying true to BYU-Idaho’s brand.
  • Organization & Flow: Structuring the information so it was easy to read and concise.
  • Feedback & Revisions: Balancing different opinions to create a good resource for the Career Center that meets employer needs.

How I Got It Done

  1. Research & Outlines: I looked at precious pamphlets and what information was lacking/ what employers actually needed.
  2. Writing & Editing: I wanted a professional yet approachable tone, making sure everything was clear and helpful. I wanted it to be concise and easy to read.
  3. Design & Layout: Created an outline that to help me visualize the pages.
  4. Feedback & Revisions: Worked with Career Center staff to hear feedback about the content.
  5. Final Touches: Made final writing edits and design edits and made sure the packet was ready for both digital and print formats.

What This Experience Was Like

This project was a great blend of writing, design, branding, and employer relations. It required collaboration, problem-solving, researching, and attention to detail to make sure the final product met professional standards. Biggest Takeaways

  • Employers appreciate clarity and efficiency. They visit too many colleges to read a 10-page pamphlet.
  • Design choices matter. Having a document that is easy to use leaves a better impression.
  • Feedback from users and those who are knowledgeable about the topic is essential.
  • Creating a resource like this means it needs to be an engaging, accessible, and professional pamphlet that can be used for years.

Final Thoughts

The Employer Welcome Packet is a valuable tool for the Career Center and employers looking to connect with BYU-Idaho students. It’s designed to simplify the process, provide the right information, and ultimately make recruitment at BYU-Idaho as seamless as possible.
